POEM: great minds

great minds

I brought her a leaf
from the same kind of tree
as the one under which
we’d first kissed
I thought she’d be surprised
by my creativity
but when I gave it to her
she started laughing
opened the trunk of her car
pulled out an identical leaf
that’s when I knew
