first my teeth pierce the soft nori skin
then move through the rice into the rich
avocado in the center

the mug of sencha fits perfectly in my hand
and there’s just enough room at the table
for these friends who will miss me when I go

  1. I really like that stone. I can almost taste the sushi and the warm cup of tea…and I miss you just as if I were one of those friends. It made me wonder about things, like vegan thugness, it is funny and true that even vegans tear into delicate things…and I wondered if there was just enough room at the table before you left or after you would leave…Nice stone.

    • Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Raven. My suspicion is that my friends will have an even bigger celebratory gathering after I leave! (I kid, I kid.)

  2. who were these friends? i was there and i didn’t see any. 🙂

    • That’s exactly what Melissa said on Facebook. Jerks.
