POEM: Trinidad, Pennsylvania

Trinidad, Pennsylvania

misty eyebrows on the hilltops
the sky a grey cotton comforter
keeping in the afternoon heat
Mighty Sparrow sings of Trinidad
so far from this truck stop
yet the pile of gravel baking
in the August sun contains
the same star-coughed matter
as the strings in Sparrow’s guitar
thrumming with indignation
or the blood that cools in my veins
as the bus carries me back

5 August 2012
somewhere in
Pennsylvania
