POEM: soon

soon

“I’ll see you soon,” she always says
so she doesn’t have to lie and say “tomorrow”
he’s tossing breadcrumbs to the pigeons
so that something will notice he’s there

I wrote this a couple weeks ago and intended to expand it. Then I looked at it again and decided it was complete.
