POEM: don’t you

don’t you

I met Ally Sheedy
back in the 90s
in a Borders in Tucson
she was buying books
I was the cashier
she’d always been
my favorite of the
Breakfast Club kids
now here she was
a few feet away
play it cool?
say something?
this calculus
repeated over & over
for all the years
of my life
play it cool?
say something?
