POEM: surreal

surreal

she watches the stage
without turning around
knowing who waits behind

(they sit in a single chair
comedic or bemused
back to the theatre)

the actors’ voices float
through the open window
words like snow on roofs

across the chasm
two other boxes
nearly too small to see

the girl wonders what lurks
behind the viewers
in those far away worlds
