Moses
There are so many photos
I’ll never look at again.
A playlist of my favorite songs
(and theirs).
We used to sing them together in the car.
I haven’t listened to it in two years.
Shouldn’t it be over by now,
I keep thinking.
I left all the physical reminders at
Goodwill stores across the country.
Usually at night when they were closed.
I’d set each object by the door
until nothing remained.
Sometimes I think of a Goodwill employee
finding a box or a scarf,
placed on the doorstep like a baby in a story.
Shouldn’t we be back together by now,
I keep thinking.
An acorn falls onto the roof of the van.
I hear a car in the distance.
“My feelings for you have changed.”
There’s a photo of us meeting.
There’s no photo of the end.
