Interviewer And Poet Jason Crane Returns To Auburn To Read Poetry
Poetry Reading: Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at The Gnu’s Room

October 2, 2012) AUBURN, AL – Interviewer and poet Jason Crane came to Auburn in July as part of his “Jazz Or Bust” tour. He fell in love with the town and is returning to read his poetry at the The Gnu’s Room on Friday, October 12 at 6 p.m. The Gnu’s Room is located at 414 S. Gay St.

“Jason’s poetry speaks to our common experiences,” said Tina Tatum, owner of The Gnu’s Room. “Folks really seemed to connect to him when he was here before, and I think anyone who missed hearing him read last time should not miss their second opportunity.”

From 2007-2012, Crane produced more than 400 episodes of The Jazz Session, featuring in-depth interviews with jazz musicians. The show featured famous names such as Sonny Rollins, Marian McPartland and Vijay Iyer as well as up-and-coming players just emerging on the jazz scene. From June through September, Crane traveled around the United States and Canada by bus to interview jazz musicians in their own communities and also to do poetry readings. His “Jazz Or Bust” Tour was covered by National Public Radio, New York’s The Village Voice newspaper, the Nashville Scene newspaper, WTJU (Charlottesville) and WFSK (Nashville), and many popular jazz blogs.

“I came to Auburn this summer having never been here before,” Crane said. “I didn’t really know anything about Auburn at all. It took less than a day to realize this was someplace I wanted to come back to. The people, the environment, the pace of life – they all make Auburn a very special place.”

Crane decided in September to end The Jazz Session after five successful years and more than 2 million downloads. He’s relocating to Auburn to help run an arts organization.
